The department of general medicine Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada is having 6 unitswith bed strength of 30 in each unit and ICU Bed strength of 48+16. The faculty consisting of 4 Professors, 4 Associate Professors,14 Assistant Professors 6 senior residents. This Department is presently headed by Dr. D. Srinivasa Rao, MD. It has yearly intake of 14 Post
graduate students. It is catering to the needs of not only NTR district but surrounding Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari and East Godavari districts. Outpatient Census- more than 6000 per month and Inpatients nearly 2000.
 

Post graduate courses started in 2006 with four post graduates seats per year, now increased to fourteen postgraduate seats per year, with every year more than four passed out post graduate students being selected for super specialty courses. At present MBBS students seats are 175.

In General Medicine department research activities are being conducted by faculty members, post graduate students and under graduate students. The department is also center for training Pharma- D, BDS, Paramedical, BAMS, Physiotherapy students. 

Diabetic clinic is being conducted on every Friday from 2 pm to 4 pm. Nodal officer from General Medicine department is monitoring , screening and diagnosis and management of HIV patients in ART center , GGH, Vijayawada.
