ABOUT US…

The department of Ophthalmology was established in 1983 under the guidance of Dr. K. Syama Sundara Rao. This department , at present has 2 units with a total of 8 faculty members.
For the first time in SMC, PG seats were sanctioned in the year 2023 and 2 PG students were joined in the department. This department is running with outpatient department, a 43 bedded ward and one operation theatre.
 

In this Department OPD and OT are run every day in the week and they attend emergency calls in the casualty and also referral cases from other departments. OP census is around 3000 patients every month and OT census is on an average 200 cataract and other surgeries every month. We are equipped with slit lamps, tonometers, A scan, B scan, Retinoscopes,
Ophthalmoscopes, YAG laser, Green laser and others in the OPD and operating microscopes in the OT.
 

They routinely perform cataract surgery for the walk-in patients and also for the camp cases from all over the district under `KANTIVELUGU' and NPCB (National Programme for Control of Blindness)
