To meet the aspirations of the people of costal fertile green belt Siddhartha Medical College come into existence on 13th March, 1981 with annual intake of 100 MBBS seats under the management of Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education. The building complex for Siddhartha Medical College was spread over a floor space of 1,48,000 Sq.Ft. in an area of 57 acres.
The Andhra Pradesh University of Health Sciences was established on 01-11-1986 with vijayawada as Headquarters. Siddhartha Medical College was handed over by the Siddhartha Academy of Genearl and Technical Education to the A.P. University of Health Sciences in December, 1986 so that it could be developed into a Model College and the University accepted this responsibility to develop it into a Campus College of A.P. University of Health Sciences. But it was delinked from University and became State wide Medical College in 2000 for combined Andhra Pradesh.
From 2019 academic year onwards, annual intake of MBBS seats has been increased to 175 seats by NMC of India.
The Curriculum prescribed for the students of this college are based on the recommendations of National Medical Commission of India.
Govt. Siddhartha Medical College is affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and University is conducting examinations to the students of this college.
